Microsoft Pix App for iOS Takes Better Photos than Apple’s Own

Microsoft Pix is a brand new camera app for iOS, that is supposedly better at taking photos than the stock iOS camera app.

The stock camera app on iOS is very simple to use and takes pretty good pictures most of the time. However, Microsoft is now claiming that their new Pix app can take better pictures than Apple’s stock camera app. It will make pictures of people look much better, that’s the promise.

Josh Weisberg, general manager of computational photography at Microsoft, stated;

There are things the Apple camera does that we don’t do and might not ever do. The goal was around people photos — can we make better people photos than the stock camera? And we succeeded.

The app uses Artificial Intelligence to give you the best photos. And it all happens in the background, very quickly, so you won’t have to wait for the photo. The interface of the app is very simple, similar to the stock iOS camera app.

How is Microsoft Pix Better?

Pix for iOS will automatically use the best settings to give you the best results. It takes a burst of images even before you tap the camera button. Then, it chooses the best out of the 10 images, based on exposure, sharpness, and other criteria.

Once the magic is completed, you will be asked to select one of three images. After you select the best out of the three, more data from the remaining two is used to make the final image better. The rest of the photos are automatically deleted from your phone, to save space.

Besides taking better photos, the app can also create Live Photos. However, the app will only create Live Photos when it thinks the image is interesting or has moving objects. There’s a Hyperlapse video as well that will turn your photos to time-lapse videos. You can also use the app to stabilize videos that you’ve just shot.

Pix is also a self learning app, which means that the more photos you take, the better it will get at improving them. As we mentioned earlier in the article, the app is mainly focused on taking better pictures of people. Therefore, if you’ve got a lot of people around you and want the best pictures, then you should download this app. One thing to note, is that the app doesn’t always take the best pictures, sometimes it can mess things up.

The app is compatible with iPhone 5s and later running iOS 9 and above. An Android version of the app will also be available soon, but for now, only iOS users can enjoy Microsoft Pix. Learn more here.
