Manchester United will be looking forward to secure their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League tonight as they take against PSV Eindhoven at home.
This fixture should turn out to be a Memphis Depay derby, as he sets to go against his former club at home. PSV’s defender Hector Moreno should be receiving an unpleasant welcome as he broke Luke Shaw’s leg in the first leg when the two sides met Eindhoven in September.
Manchester United are playing impressive football this season. They rank second in the Premier League table with a point behind and are just one win away of qualifying to the knockout stages. However, it’s the style of play they’ve been criticized this season.
With Wayne Rooney playing ahead as a lone striker and Anthony Martial shifting to the wings, United has failed to capitalize their attacking upfront. Martial scored seven goals already this season and he surely would make a perfect fit in the central position with Rooney playing behind him.
It’s United defense that’s been saving them this season. Having conceded only nine goals in all competitions, they lost to PSV in a 2-1 scoreline, which was a big blow they’ll be looking forward to recover. Three times European Champions have seven points in the group and a win will keep them to the top of the table.
Phillip Cocu’s side also have a decent chance of leading the group if they repeat the same scoreline as they did in their home. Hector Moreno and Luciano Narsingh cancelled Depay’s 41-st minute goal to take away three points.
PSV’s side look strong considering their form in their domestic league. They currently stand third in the table, with only a defeat in 13 league fixtures.
