Deadpool managed to do something that no other superhero movie has done before. And that is to earn a Golden Globe nomination. And not one, but two of those. Deadpool is nominated for Best Motion Picture – musical or comedy, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – musical or comedy.

Experts are very straightforward, Deadpool got the nominations because it wasn’t a superhero movie. The movie set itself apart from other superhero movies in the tone and genre. The marketing was also different, and the tone was more comedy, and less serious. There have been stronger superhero movies, but none of them have ever been nominated for a Golden Globe. Even Ryan Reynolds, the lead actor was surprised. He told Entertainment Weekly that he was surprised:
