An announcement was made by BlackBerry and Jaguar Land Rover today, the two companies have entered into a collaboration agreement for developing technology for the automatic giants forthcoming vehicles.
Under the agreement, BlackBerry will be licensing its Certicom and QNX technology to JLR and provide support by assigning a team of engineers to develop a new ECU or Electronic Control Unit module. The first among the ECU project will focus on a next-gen infotainment system.
Focusing on the best in connected vehicles
Dave Nesbitt, Director of Vehicle Engineering at JLR stated that working with BB will help JLR to develop secure and safe next-gen connected cars that JLR’s customers are wanting. He added that working in unison with BlackBerry engineers, JLR can access the most up-to-date and dynamic software in order to ensure highest levels of security needed for connected vehicles of the company.
Working on enhanced driving experience for customers
John Wall, Senior Vice President at BlackBerry added further that his company was going through a pivotal moment where innovative automobile manufacturers like JLR are realizing the need to be actively involved in defining software architecture for the modern day vehicles. Autonomous and connected vehicles are designed to react and drive with the help of rich data. The BlackBerry platform helps in efficient processing of the data and keeping it trusted and secure.
