The Skype platform has recently announced that they will be introducing fun filters to its video messaging feature, to help sruce up your quick messages to friends. For now, these filters are only available on the mobile version of Skype, so if you have their app installed on your smartphone, you would be able to access it tapping the filter wand at the bottom left of the video message window.

Skype says: “Skype is always looking for new ways to help you express yourself – we’ve recently launched new features such as Mojis, Skype Translator and our fantastic new range of emoticons, so you can express exactly how you feel. Today, we’re excited to launch video message filters in Skype for Android, iPhone and iPad – video effects that let you add more fun to your Skype video messages.”

Skype’s latest updates were aligned to compete with WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger when they released features like Skype Mojis and Skype translator, however, in this particular update Skype seems to be closing in to Snapchat territory. Snapchat recently introduced some similar filters to its video feature.

The new Skype update is available in your given app store, with the latest updates that lets you choose from a total of 11 video filters, such as adding balloons, going goofy or ghost feature to name a strange few.

If this new update is not your cup of tea, for those of you using Skype on iOS devices, Skype now supports 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s / 6s Plus that gives you quick access to Skype contact search, call or chat, and Skype dial pad if you Force Touch the Skype icon on your home screen. The new “Peek and Pop” feature helps improve multitasking, you can Force Touch a Recent conversation to Peek the latest instant messages or live video if you’re on a call, along with many other useful features.
