While not a technological ground-breaker, fashion watchmaker Rado was still the first to popularize ceramics in their watch cases in 1990. Until now all Ceramica watches were powered with quartz movements but with their newest three-watch release, this clean, classically-designed timepiece has adopted an automatic movement.
All three new Rado Caramica Automatic Watches have rectangular-shaped, hi-tech ceramic monobloc cases sized 30mm x 41.7mm x 12.3mm and have opaque titanium casebacks that hide the ETA 2671 movement operating at 4Hz showing hours, minutes, small seconds, and the date. They have a 38 hour power reserve and water-resistance down to 160′ (50m). The new Rado Ceramicas come in three demure colors of black and polished grey for the production watches and a 701-piece limited edition in matte grey with sunken dots for the indices instead of bars and no lume.
The new Ceramica Automatic watches are all mounted on ceramic bracelets with a titanium 3-fold buckle. The rectangular aesthetic may not suit everyone but there is no denying that moving toward automatic movements will improve the Rado’s appeal.
