Scotland’s premier whiskey brand Johnnie Walker has just released the second installment of their limited edition Blender’s Batch whiskey.  The new Bourbon Cask & Rye Finish ($52) once more examines the experimental nature of the Blender’s Batch portfolio.

Dr. Jim Beveridge, Johnnie Walker’s Master Blender took inspiration from his work in the 1990’s when he mixed ryes and bourbons in Kentucky, USA.  He began by gathering samples of over 200 whiskeys from five separate Johnnie Walker distilleries.  This newly minted and blended elixir was then aged in first-fill bourbon casks.  The matured liquid was then interred in former rye casks for an extra 6 months to imbue it with an “intense honeyed sweetness”.

The Blender’s Batch Bourbon Cask & Rye Finish registers 40% ABV and will be sold in 1L bottles. At a suggested retail of just $52 per bottle, one would be well-served to get some before it is gone.
