Sierra Madre Research is constantly seeking ways to improve their line of camping hammocks and it shows in their latest model, the Nubé Stratos Modular Hammock ($225). Depending on the weather and camping conditions, you can mix and match components for personal preferences.
The hammock itself has the insect shield attached but suspended from the roof ridge for maximum internal space. With the weather shield spread over as an independent unit, both protection and visibility of the surrounding area is improved. Each side sports an ergonomically designed S-Curve door to make entry and exit of the sleeping area much safer and easier. Under the sleeping area is another sling designed to hold up to 100 pounds of gear off the ground and in easy reach.
Another feature that makes the Nubé Stratos so special are the pocket and line locks which hold the support lines individually wrapped in storage so they are quickly accessed and neat on setup. By the time you get around to realizing the closure sleeves are also made waterproof to keep you dry it is easy to see how this system can make camping as sweet as a day in the park.
