2Y House

For organic beauty and a maximum of back-to-nature comfort, architect Sebastián Irarrázaval has created a home that flows with the forest and land around it.  The multi-leveled 2Y House in Curanilahue, Chile, sprawls over the landscape well-glazed to offer sweeping views from every room.  The floor plan utilizes two “Y” shaped wings (hence the name) that orient with the sun to provide maximum lighting throughout the day.

Many walls are no more than struts and glass to accentuate the outdoor experience.  The crossbar lifts up to a higher level via stairs and a ramp, while one of the Y ends hangs out over a drop to give birds-eye views of the forest on three sides.

The 2Y House is perfect for an area secluded and private.  Even the large decked patio is wrapped by the walls of the house to become a center of attention.  The internal open framing motif, combined with the wood siding exterior gives the 2Y house a distinctive rustic look.  Whatever the season, this house is a statement of style all on its own.
