Whiskey Rox ($15-$25) are an ingenious new product that gives your whiskey the perfect chilled temperature. Why not just use ice? Well, ice although admittedly cold is oftentimes too cold, and it dilutes the whiskey or makes it too chilled. Whiskey Rox Chilling Stones are constructed from soapstone and retain a thermal temperature for a long period of time, meaning you can pop them in the freezer and then into your whiskey.
When I knew I was going hands on with the Rox Chilling Stones I had a bit of a problem. Despite my fantasies of being an old school gentleman, I am actually a beer guzzling twenty-something, and one that does not like whiskey. I was there for delighted when I found upon Beer Rox, which in many ways are more ingenious than the Whiskey Rox set.
Beer is not very good with ice; I have tried cooling a room temp beer down with ice before and the result is a diluted watery beverage. So I have to say I had my doubts about the Beer Rox, but nevertheless on I went and poured a room temperature beer into a glass. The Beer Rox which had been placed in the freezer actually managed to cool my beer down, and of course they did it without finally melting away.
So the result was an undiluted fresh beer that was cool and tasted glorious. It is also worth mentioning that because the soapstone does not absorb odour or tastes, you can avoid that funky tasting ice-cube that you sometimes get. The Beer Rox are totally hygienic and can be used many times, and if you are not a beer guzzler like me, or a whiskey drinker then you can try out Coffee Rox and Wine Rox.
